Susan's Journey to become accomplished in Permanent Makeup started when she moved to Tucson in 1998. Her tattoo apprenticeship began with her husband, Greg, in 1996.It was a very intense traditional apprenticeship. Susan learned from the ground up.  Her training began with machine set-up and tuning and progressed through needle building and sterilization .Her husband Greg (A classically trained tattoo artist ,who in the 1970's had apprenticed under Don Eaker-the then president of NATIONAL TATTOO CLUB) always told his apprentices "If your going to do this, your going to do it right". It was a difficult and sometimes frustrating apprenticeship and at times even strained their relationship. Susan was given no slack for being Greg's wife but after 3 tough years Greg proclaimed her the most technically proficient tattoo artist he had ever trained.

Tattooing leaves an indelible mark, and Susan takes that responsibility seriously. In the beginning Susan tattooed small body art. The reward of seeing beautiful and artistic tattoos on her customers helped Susan to forge ahead. Rendering butterflies and roses and kanj's helped her gain the confidence and skill to begin the more challenging field of tattooing faces - or permanent makeup

Susan Alexander tattooed permanent cosmetics at Maggie Mayes in Tucson starting in 1999. She and her husband, Greg, opened that shop in 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. Susan built a strong reputation during that time as an accomplished permanent makeup artist.
